Special Care Nursery: Level II NICU

Babies who need extra monitoring and are not ready to “room-in” with their mother, can receive the care they need from the specialized NICU staff in the Special Care Nursery. Located next to the Kate Lindig Level III NICU, our brightly colored, Special Care Nursery (Level II NICU) is designed for babies who need more specialized care, but do not need the highly advanced care provided in the Kate Lindig Level III NICU. The Special Care Nursery is ideal for newborns who are experiencing temporary concerns, such as mild respiratory distress or an infection requiring antibiotics, and will soon be ready to return to their mothers. Some babies are moved to the Special Care Nursery as soon as they are born and a need is identified, while others may come to the unit as part of their recovery after leaving the Kate Lindig Level III NICU. This Nursery allows us to provide the best possible care in the most appropriate environment for the full range of newborn needs.
