Advanced practice provider Samantha Thwing is a board-certified physician assistant who specializes in neurology critical care. She also holds certifications in basic life support (BLS) and advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS).

Samantha earned her bachelor’s degree in history from the University of California at Riverside and her master’s degree in physician assistant studies from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. She has been in practice since 2012, and her primary clinical interests are arrhythmias, heart disease in women and stroke prevention.

Her professional experience includes performing history and physical examinations on new-patient inpatient consultations, code stroke patients and follow-up visits; interpreting laboratory and imaging results; providing patient education and family discussions regarding plan of care; ordering appropriate diagnostic studies and therapeutic interventions; and developing plans of care for ICU and acute-level patients.

An incredible childhood experience with a physician inspired Samantha to become a healthcare provider so she could help people in the same way. Her approach to patient care is to begin by listening, coupled with a thorough exam. The patient’s experience and history, along with an exam, she feels, reveal a great deal and help direct care in a manner that truly includes the patient in the process.

Samantha hopes that patients feel like family or a dear friend when in they are in her care. Her favorite part of practicing is helping people feel better and take control of their health journeys.

She is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and Texas Academy of Physician Assistants.

When Samantha is away from her practice, she enjoys spending time with her husband and children, running, reading, photography, animal rescue and travel.
