THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS (June 17, 2014)

Josh Urban has taken the reins as Chief Executive Officer at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital.

“In the 15 years Josh has been with our system, he has demonstrated a strong work ethic with proven results,” said Dan Wolterman, president and CEO of Memorial Hermann. “His expertise in hospital operations combined with his commitment to this community made Josh the right person to lead Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital into the future.”

Urban began his tenure with Memorial Hermann in 2000 as an administrative fellow reporting to Wolterman. From there, he went on to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, working his way up from Director of Hospital Operations to Chief Ambulatory Services Officer. During his eight years of service, Urban’s responsibilities ranged from hospital operations, where he oversaw construction, engineering, facilities and environmental services, to specialty service lines, where he led strategy for business units such as emergency services, specialty surgery, oncology, transplant services and bariatrics.

“As a veteran of the Texas Medical Center, Josh is well positioned to further expand the hospital’s capabilities to continue to bring a Texas Medical Center level of care to Montgomery County,” added Wolterman.

In 2008, Urban joined Memorial Hermann The Woodlands as Chief Operating Officer under Steve Sanders. As COO, he was instrumental in growing the hospital’s bed count from 222 beds to the current 294 beds. Urban also led the charge to grow market share, which Memorial Hermann The Woodlands now leads at 21.4 percent. Additionally, he steered the hospital’s most recent expansion, a seven-story patient tower that added 240,000 square feet to the hospital’s footprint at a cost of $80 million, as well as specialty services provided by TIRR Memorial Hermann and the Mischer Neuroscience Institute.

“Memorial Hermann The Woodlands is a top-notch facility with competent and caring employees, volunteers and medical staff,” said Urban. “My wife and I have lived in the community since 1994, and the hospital has provided care for us over the years, including the birth of our son. I look forward to growing and enhancing the care we offer, so the community continues to trust us to provide safe and high-quality care for their loved ones.”

Urban currently serves on The Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership Board of Directors. He is a 2011 graduate of Leadership Montgomery County and sat on The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors from 2009 to 2012. Additionally, he is involved with the United Way as a Healthcare Steering Committee Member.

In his free time, Urban enjoys fishing, hunting and traveling. He also has a passion for running and triathlons and is a three-time Hawaii IRONMAN World Championship finisher.
