HOUSTON (December 20, 2009)

Houstonians can spread cheer to injured children this holiday season by giving to the Mix 96.5 Any Size Saves Lives campaign, benefiting the Level 1 pediatric trauma center at Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital.

The only Level 1 pediatric trauma center in the Gulf Coast region, Children's Memorial Hermann is home to the Life Flight air ambulance service and the specially equipped Children's Memorial Hermann Transport Team pediatric ambulances. The hospital also is verified as a Level 1 trauma center by the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons, recognizing the hospital's dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients.

"Traumatic injury is the leading cause of death and disability in children over age 1," said Charles Cox, M.D., chief of trauma at Children's Memorial Hermann and professor of pediatric surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. "Each year, one in four children age 14 and under will sustain injuries serious enough to require medical attention."Throughout the campaign, Mix 96.5 listeners will hear Children's Memorial Hermann patients and families tell their stories of courage and survival, recounting rescues by the Life Flight team and lifesaving treatment by physicians, nurses, therapists and the entire staff at Children's Memorial Hermann.
