Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital celebrated a major milestone today with the official opening of its new 230,000-square-foot, six-story patient tower. With added capacity to multiple services, Memorial Hermann Katy is poised to accommodate the future growth of one of the fastest growing cities in the United States.
“This is a monumental achievement for our staff at Memorial Hermann Katy, as well as our patients and the community,” said Dan Wolterman, president and CEO of Memorial Hermann Health System. “Our entire mission is centered on access to care and we have achieved great strides in doing just that here in Katy.”
With medical expertise in 47 specialties, Memorial Hermann Katy has expanded its surgical suites, medical and surgical beds and labor and delivery department. At final build out, the six-story patient tower will have a total of 300 patient beds with rooms and views that offer a calm and healing environment. The hospital also has expanded its diagnostic imaging areas, intensive and intermediate care units, women’s services, sports medicine and endoscopy.

Another highlight of the tower is the Level 2 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) that features private rooms for mothers and babies, and accommodations for visitors to stay comfortably in the hospital overnight. Additionally, mothers of multiples will now be able to accommodate two newborns in one private room.

Katy Area Economic Development President and CEO Lance LaCour recently commented that “the Katy Area is extremely fortunate to have a strong economy which is driving growth” and further citing that “Katy is continuing to see businesses expand in the area.” Additionally, a recent study cited the population growth within the Katy Area is expected to continue and will reach well over 350,000 by the year 2020.
The 66-acre campus has plans to further expand with even more offerings in specialty and surgical care. In 2016, Memorial Hermann Katy will add a second dedicated suite for the catheterization lab – critical for cardiac patients – and will increase capacity in the emergency center, with plans to grow to 24 beds. The hospital has already added a second CT scanner in its emergency center to reduce the door-to-CT time for stroke patients.
Memorial Hermann Katy also recently opened a new and innovative offsite Convenient Care Center that combines primary care, emergency services, a complete diagnostic lab, comprehensive imaging capabilities, and sports and medicine rehabilitation which further emphasizes the commitment to access.
