Board certified in both adult and geriatric psychiatry, Dr. Thompson completed his medical doctorate at The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, and his residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Additionally, he completed a clinical fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York.
As one of only a few board-certified psychiatrists in the Houston area specializing in mental diseases of the aged, Dr. Thompson combines the sciences of general medicine, psychiatry and neurology to treat patients with dementia, traumatic brain injury, depression, anxiety, and neurological and psychotic disorders. He treats patients age 18 and older, both inpatient and outpatient. His special interest is in helping patients overcome geriatric addictions such as alcoholism and prescription drugs.
A key service Dr. Thompson offers is coordination of care between patients and caregivers. He works closely with the adult children of aging parents who have Alzheimer’s disease, helping to stabilize cognition and treat the symptoms that go along with the disease, such as behavioral, eating and sleeping problems.
Dr. Thompson practices at Memorial Hermann Prevention and Recovery Center (PaRC) in West Houston.
